Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Where does your meat come from?
A. We have a slaughter facility located in Ladoga ( Montgomery County). This gives us the great ability in choosing local producers of beef, pork and lamb.
Q. What is a free-range chicken?
A. Free-range means the birds are raised outside where they can move and scratch the dirt as they were created to do. Our birds are fed non-medicated feed and drink fresh water all day. The birds you see for sale in our meat case are raised exclusively on the Moody farm. They are processed one bird at a time at our Ladoga facility.
Q. Why is your Avon store closed on Sunday and Monday?
A. If you read Our Philosophy on this website, you will understand the well being of our staff is a very high priority. We are open on Monday in Ladoga to prepare for the week in Avon. We would have to ask our staff to work on Sunday to be open on Monday in Avon. Feel free to call Ladoga on Monday if you have a question or to place an order.
Q. Why do you seem to run out of certain cuts?
A. Moody Meats is not a “warehouse-big box” business. We are not driven by a 24/7 constant flow of cheap product for the masses. Moody Meats is a small, local, limited quantity, fresh cut daily butcher shop. Frankly, we encourage every single customer to plan ahead! We love phone ahead orders! Call before we open and we can cut your order as we are cutting for the meat case. (Old time butcher shops opened at 5 a.m. and were cleaned up and closed by noon.)
Q. Where do you get your fish?
A. Our fish is flown in from all over the world. We can tell you exactly where it was caught and /or raised. Actually, with the exception of a few varieties of fish, most are wild caught.
Q. How lean is your ground beef and what is in it?
A. The ground beef is 92%-94% lean. We use round, chuck, sirloin and rump. A little Moody Meats fact: we sell over 400 pounds of ground beef a month. No kidding.
